I've been reading some of the other stuff they're doing to the Xbox which makes me less inclined to make the purchase. 1) Paying Microsoft for playing a USED game. That's just frustrating and ridiculous having to purchase a used game TWICE. I buy a lot of used games, don't get me wrong I buy new games of titles and franchises that I like. The fact that Microsoft wants to basically piggy back on used game sales is both dishearting and infurating. Microsoft its not like you're already making us pay for Gold membership in order to play online and stream services to your product that we're already paying for but you have to jump on a service that the gaming productions companys are already trying to get rid of?

2) Must be always connected. That's fine and dandy considering that I'm already always connected but what happens when my ISP has a hickup and I'm with out service for about 3-4 hours? They're not going to let me play my games offline that I've purchased not once but twice while being offline? I'm guessing the "must always be connected" is part of the whole "cloud powered" but not everything needs to be on the cloud.

3) It seems like they're really pushing their console as a "social / media center" instead of a "gaming console". I'm weary thinking that they may cater to more of the casual gamers instead of the hardcore gamer. Having more of the same party game titles. Not sure if this is true or not but I feel as though the gimic of the kinect is narrowly scoped to those that are casual gamers. There have been attempts to bridge the addon as a more "hardcore gamer" utility but I have seen little use for it or need to use it.

I'm hyped but I'm also cynical if this generation for the xBox is going to work for me. Pam and I have dicussions on which we went to purchase first, the PS4 or the "Xbox 720", but after reading some of these issues PS4 is looking to be the sole winner. E3 is going to be the one chance that Xbox One has to really win me back. Even then, with the added cost of playing used games and having to have gold membership to both stream media and play online, it going to be an uphill battle. As it stands right now, E3 is going to have to be a blow out show for the Xbox for me to consider buying their next gen.

[Current Music |CBS Sunday Morning]

Quote:
Originally from CBS' Sunday Morning 'Gymnast Shawn Johnson: A true golden girl'
Mo Rocca: She managed to win silver which she says taught her something invaluable:
Shawn Johnson: My worth isn't determined by the color of a metal.
Mo Rocca: Getting a silver is getting a silver, its not 'not getting a gold'.
Shawn Johnson: Exactly. You know one of the first questions I was asked was, 'how does it feel to loose?' And I said, 'you know if that's what people think then we have it all wrong. I didn't loose anything I won a silver metal.'

When I was a young man, I had liberty, but I did not see it. I had time, but I did not know it. And I had love, but I did not feel it. Many decades would pass before I understood the meaning of all three. And now, the twilight of my life, this understanding has passed into contentment.

Love, liberty, and time: once so disposable, are the fuels that drive me forward. And love, most especially, mio caro. For you, our children, our brothers and sisters. And for the vast and wonderful world that gave us life, and keeps us guessing. Endless affection, mio Sofia.

Forever yours,
Ezio Auditore

At some point I'm gonna need to make a good user pic. Might scan in some photos from last semester I took for Intro. to Traditional Photography. Probably have to do that tomorrow since after work I'll be dead tired and would rather spend energy talkin' with Pam.

[Current Music |Led Zeppelin - I Can't Quit You Baby]

It wasn't exactly where I thought it would be, still packed up in the box, but I found my SS card. So i just got back from filling out "paper work" even though all that was really left was watching a safety video. Now I'm just waiting for the phone call for my first day of work. So I guess technically I am employed.

Stupid Video Card [May. 16th, 2009|04:40 pm]

[Current Music |Massive Attack - I Am Home]

So this past week my Sapphire Radeon x1650 PCI-E video card finally went kaput. Its been doing screen tearing while playing WoW for probably 2 or 3 weeks prior but I didn't think anything of it because about the time that it started 3.1 had just been released. So i thought it was a video issue with 3.1 not my card. Probably a week before is finally crapped out the video driver I assumed was crashing because the screen would go black and then come back up a few seconds later with the message, "Such and such .dll has stopped working and your system has recovered". I don't remember the exact phrasing of the message. That went on until it was doing it at least once a minute and as quickly as every 10-25 seconds. I asked about it after it had forced me to drop out of a raid because it was crashing every so often that it was affecting my ability to heal. One of the guys in the guild said that it sounded like it was a video card over heating problem. Great! I had asked about it multiple times in guild before it was a problem and no one said anything. Now as soon as it affects my raiding everyone decides to put in their .02 cents. I can't be to made at them because really I should have looked into it further but it still is kinda maddening that no one responds until it affects their ability to raid.

Long and Boring Trouble ShootCollapse )

So a long story short I'm here running windows with the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" driver installed being bored outa my skull. I'm rather surprised how many programs use hardware acceleration. All of the Windows packaged games, WoW (of course, gave me a "Failed to find a suitable display device. Exiting Program", guess the drivers don't support DirectX) and Windows Media Player. I tried to play a DvD later that night and it was having trouble doing that. :(

I figured that the only way that I was going to get it replaced was if i were to get a job. So I spent a good part of yesterday lookin' at job sites. Hopin' that I might find something that I'm comfortable with. Pam suggested that I look at maybe working at Lowe's. Went to their website and looked at their online application. Mike came on and was asking me what I was going to do as far as the card goes and I told him that I'd just have to get a job and replace it. Told him that I was looking at maybe getting a job at Lowe's and he replied that I should try and find a job in design some where. Said I should talk to Lisa's mother and maybe she could help me out.

Both Mike and Pam asked me if I had looked at cards yet to see what I wanted to replace my old one with. To which I said hadn't really started because I wanted to get a job. Concentrate on business first and then toys later. Mike being impatient and said he'd look for me. He linked me the Asus GeForce 8000 GS PCI-E which is $34.99, before a $10 mail in rebate, and said "happy birthday". When I told Pam this she said she was going to offer to buy me one too had I linked her one. X.x I would have NOT accepted it from her especially since she is trying to get back up to NC. So now the card is supposed to get here in 5 days, most likely from this coming Monday since the order was placed after 6pm on Friday.

and I'll write moar later...

So I was watching the 2nd season finale of Life and I really dug the opening and closing songs. I did a search for them and I cant for the life of me figure out who the artist is or the song title. :(

Opening Song Lyrics (think I got most of them right. was hard to make out some of it with the talking going on)::
A New Beginning by 26
You can fight all you like
but don't bring me in
control as you might
you're not getting a thing

I'd like to say I'm sorry
I'd like to say I'm wrong
I wish I could control myself
and feel like I belong

Take flight satellite
and drift into space
we're all on a flight
we're all a little insane

I'd like to say I'm sorry
I'd like to say I'm wrong
I wish I could control myself
and feel like I belong

Light fell I wished upon the stars that filled the sky
but they were only satellites

I'd like to say I'm sorry
I'd like to say I'm wrong
I wish I could control myself
and feel like I belong

Closing Song Lyrics (and I know these are the exactly lyrics)::
Easy, Easy
Don't let this world get you down
Who you maybe
I'll always be with you

Easy, Baby
Worry yourself no more
You're not alone
I'm right here by your side

Here I am
Here I am
Sending love to you
Your life long lullaby

Here I am
Here I am
While you sleep I sleep
Your life long lullaby

Easy, Easy
Time will pass me by
Who you maybe
I'll always be with you

GUH. So for the past week or so one of my hard drives have been, what can be best described as, "knocking" when I start up my computer. When I heard it the first time my stomach flipped, two sets of 4 knocks. I got the error saying that it couldn't boot. Had to find my Vista DVD and run the boot repair util. Now when ever my computer is shut down or goes into hibernate the next time that it comes up it "knocks" with 2 sets of 6 and 1 set of 2 and I get the "computer wasn't shut down properly" startup screen. I'm thinking that it's my 80gig C:, but when i started up my computer this morning Vista wasn't able to connect to my 180gig D:. I sure hope it isn't my D: because its pretty much where I store all my shit that I want access to when the server isn't on and where I install all of my games. Running a disk check now on my D: and when that's done I'll be rebooting to do one on my C:. If bad comes to worse I'll just have to backup everything onto the server but really should just do that anyway...

...damn this this is going slow...
